Here at Teesside School Of Music we offer Drum Lessons in our purpose built teaching studio’s.
£15.00 per half hour
£30.00 per hour
We recommend the earliest starting age for drum lessons be 6 years old, but have tried younger children in the past. We don’t have an upper age limit so remember you’re never too old to learn to play drums!
Lessons are taught by one of our enthusiastic and qualified drum teachers. Our drum teachers base the lessons around the student, so if you just want to learn for fun and are not interested in doing any official grade qualifications then that’s ok with us. However if you would like to be taken through your drum grade exams we can do this as well. We teach the Rock School and Trinity grade syllabus, which is a recognised qualification.

Hey I am Luke. I have been drumming for 15+ years including live shows, studio work and teaching. I originally came from a rock background before studying jazz and world music with drummer Adrian Tilbrook, who I have spent over a decade studying with. I spent a lot of years working on my technique and developing my skills in a wide range of styles which has led me to finding my own sound, sitting somewhere between modern jazz and RnB/hip hop with a strong afrobeat influence.
I have spent the last few years studying Djembe and West African percussion with Mark Barfoot and enjoy seeing how those rhythms can be translated to the drum kit.
I strongly believe that a solid technique and a good understanding of a multitude of genres, and the history of those genres, are the necessary foundation for us to begin building our own style and finding our own individual sound as we progress on our musican journey. Every musician has their own feel that they bring to the instrument, shaped not only by the music we absorb, but also by our experiences in life and what we learn away from the instrument. I am very excited to help you develop and apply yours so that whatever the style of music you play, you bring your own unique creativity and feel, allowing you to play any genre you may encounter but also to improvise and create with confidence.
10+ years studying with Adrian Tilbrook (Backdoor, Tony Christie, Bob Mintzer, Andy Champion etc)
1+ years studying with Mark Barfoot (Nansady Keita, Hannabiell and Midnight Blue etc)

At the age of twenty two I had completed my Guildhall grade 8 under tuition from Tommy Graham and wanted to improve further on my instrument. I decided to go for an audition at the Brighton Institute of Modern Music as this is one of the best independent music Universities in the country. After being accepted, I completed, and passed with merit, a Higher National Diploma in drums / music. I studied under world class player Adam Bushel who has done session work for the likes of Sheryl Crow, Faithless and Celtus. This opened so many new doors and gave me the skills and knowledge that got me where I am today. I have built up a good reputation and I now teach students in Newcastle, Sunderland and Teesside area. I am also involved in session work and played for a very successfully band called The Flytes who have toured France, America, and the UK. The Flytes played with Gomez and The Bluetones and sold out stage 2 of the Newcastle O2 Academy Including finals in live and unsigned in London.
